HISTORY

From 1987 onwards, the sugar cane plantation was abandoned due to disturbance by wild elephants, and people migrated to Wellawaya, the closest town, seeking employment.
In 1994, villagers started cultivating pepper. The government offered subsidies to encourage rural cultivations.
