AGRICULTURAL TRAINING
Today, due to industrialization and modern technology, young people are turning away from agricultural jobs, even in rural areas . There is no real motivation or understanding among young people about the importance of agriculture. On the other hand, no proper guidance is given by the older generations.
Little Smile Organic decided to launch an agricultural training programme, especially for schools . With the growing interest of teachers and young people, we decided to extend our training programmes to a wider group and in a more profound manner.
In 2007, the training centre and school in the Children's Village Mahagedara in Koslanda was inaugurated. Here courses are offered on nature protection, analogue forestry, traditional medicine and organic agriculture.
OBJECTIVES
- Encourage young people to go into agriculture
- Introduce and train students in Biodynamic agriculture and a nalogue forestry systems in harmony with nature
- Educate farmers on organic farming systems
- Launch leadership programmes
- Developm business attitudes and positive thinking
- Give agriculture a high value in s ociety
TARGET GROUPS
- Students who require further education in agriculture (who leave school after O' and A'levels)
- Cooperative growers, contract farmers and processors
- Members of government/non-government and the private sector
- University and agricultural college students
- School children
- Children with learning difficulties (as helpers)
